The London section of the LEST tours was a highlight, a stand out, with clear leadership, a passion to make a difference and a huge investment by government, billions of pounds, to revitalise the system to support students and their learning.
The government is undertaking a 12 year program to re-model or re-build and bulldoze schools across England. The system had been so neglected and run down that the Blair government is committed a 6 times increase of funding from past years to rebuild the infrastructure failures of the past.
For the first time since WWII education, educators and architects are being asked to design 21st C learning and community facilities which will make a difference to the lives. Consultation with staff, students and communities are very strong with government providing consultant time to engage with such schools and their communities. Learning technologies will form an integral part of these developments with approximately 10%-15% of the budget to address technology in the building design brief .... more to come too tied and my brain is mush!!!!!
