shortwaveology is a semi-irregular podcast  rumination about shortwave radio, its aesthetics, history and effect on popular culture.

The first episode is housed under the Big Shed , a podcast paradise for independent audio documentarians. A hearty twist of the dial to Shed honchos, Jen Deer and Shea Shackleford, for inviting shortwaveology into the Shed.

What’s new under the shortwaveology corporate umbrella:

  1. 1.Shortwave at the End of Time, my radio listening blog, and exploration of the art of receiving far away radio stations, as we cross into the digital age.

  2. 2.The Listening Lounge: a collection of audio pieces about and inspired by shortwave radio.

  3. 3.The shortwaveology lab: Our Brooklyn-based listening post, anchored by the  Drake R8B receiver,  is configured both for the reception and recording of distant broadcasts, as well for the musician/sound artist who needs a little aether in the mix. The shortwave spectrum has often tapped by musicians, in the experimental and popular realm as a sort of natural synthesizer. In this vein, Ned Sublette, and I are engaging in a series of radio jams under the moniker “The Propagations.”
