1971
Shindo is born in Naha City, Okinawa (island and prefecture), Japan.
1977
Shindo in the first grade rapidly learns how to read and loves it. He has a habit of reading his baby sitter’s books.
Shindo is very fond of drawing pictures, which is his way of expressing the stories he makes.
He sees Star Wars, which forever impacts his imagination.
1981
Fourth grade Shindo avidly reads the encyclopedia set his father gives him (and any other book he could get his hands on). This provides him with the foundation of knowledge an author needs; however it sets him up for a lifetime of being a know it all.
1982
Shindo the fifth grader considers becoming an author after reading books on Greek myths he checks out from the school library.
1988
16 year old Shinichi Evans is christened Shindo by two high school friends who do a punk rock fanzine.
1989
Graduates from Stephen Watts Kearny High, San Diego.
Shindo studies at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, majoring in Visual Presentation. The art training he receives will be instrumental in creating Resplendence.
1991
Shindo enrolls at San Diego City College and majors in French.
Shindo gravitates towards the work of C.S. Lewis such as his Space Trilogy, which has an impact on his imagination and early writing style.
1992
Shindo takes a literature and composition class at City College and exposure to works of literature reinforce his earlier desire to become a writer.
1995
Shindo gains the confidence to enroll at a creative writing course at Mesa College taught by Leroy Quintana.
1996
Shindo takes a poetry workshop with Bonnie Rosecliff. While he does not continue to write poetry regularly after this course, poetry does have an impact on his writing.
Shindo submits “The Supermarket Obatarian,” a story of a Japanese teenager and his eccentric aunt, to Mesa College’s short story contest, which gets fourth place and a spot in the school’s literary journal.

During the spring, Shindo transfers to San Diego State University and switches his major to English with an emphasis in creative writing. He takes an upper division creative writing course taught by Stephen-Paul Martin.
The Fiction and Poetry of Shinichi Evans, an earlier incarnation of shindotv, is created and hosted on Geocities.
Shindo takes an upper division creative writing course with Cecile Pineda. In this workshop, Shindo turns his attention to dystopic fiction such as “Take No Thought,” parting from stories like “The Supermarket Obatarian.”
1998
Shindo continues to write dystopic fiction and present them to Cecile Pineda’s workshop.
1999
“The Fiction and Poetry of Shinichi Evans” becomes shindotv.

2000
Shindo meets Professor Harold Jaffe in an upper division literature course and reads Jaffe’s Sex For The Millenium and Fiction International as part of the curriculum. Jaffe invites Shindo to join the editorial team of Fiction International and to enroll in his graduate course. Shindo takes him up on his invitation. Jaffe would be an influential figure in Shindo’s writing career for the next three years.
Upon joining Jaffe’s group of editorial assistants, Shindo quickly finds him promoted to assistant editor.
Shindo studies in Jaffe’s Form and Theory of Fiction course. Shindo’s response to the readings creates some interesting writing and art, some of which was the seminal work for Resplendence. The drawings and text is given the working title of “Benny’s Narratives.”
Shindo also takes a course with Larry McCaffery in Science Fiction. McCaffery’s curriculum exposes him to writers such as Alfred Bester and Ursula K. Le Guin.
At an SDSU Living Writers Reading, Shindo meets Lidia Yuknavitch, author and editor of Two Girls Review. Shindo is also acquainted with Virginia Paterson and Ryan Smith, friends and collaborators of Yuknavitch’s, from Harold Jaffe’s Form and Theory course.
2001
shindotv incorporates the cross and cigarette as a signature image.
Harold Jaffe encourages Shindo to develop “Benny’s Narratives” and submit it to Trepan.

Shindo applies San Diego State University’s MFA Creative Writing Program and is accepted. Studies begin in the fall. Shindo graduates with a BA in English, emphasis in creative writing.
Shindo meets MFA classmate and poet Estela Eaton, who later organizes the Whackjob reading series.
Shindo meets Tom Kazamias, an MD with an interest in creative writing. Kazamias becomes an important literary friend on and off for the next few years.
Shindo enrolls in a creative writing course with visiting professor Martin Harrison.
September 11 happens, which forever has an impact on any American writer’s imagination, including Shindo.
2002
Shindo takes creative writing workshop with Joanne Meschery for the next two semesters.
Shindo moves from the suburbs to Downtown San Diego.
Shindo leaves Fiction International and parts ways with Harold Jaffe.
2003
For the next three semesters, Shindo takes courses with David Matlin, whom he asks to chair his thesis. Matlin’s reading list for Shindo, such as Frank O’Hara, James Schuyler, and the Angel Hair Anthology, help breathe life into the Resplendence project.
Shindo and Estela Eaton do a reading that launches Eaton’s Whackjob series.
Shindo takes a poetry workshop with Wanda Coleman.
Shindo takes a poetry workshop with Sharon Bryan.
Shindo applies to teach English 280, Introduction to Creative Writing.
2004
Shindo teaches English 280, which is his first time teaching.
Shindo participates in a Shakespeare’s Birthday reading organized by Marrilyn Ball.
Taking part in the SDICCCA program, Shindo does his teaching internship at San Diego City College with Chris Baron as his mentor, shadowing his poetry workshop.
For one last time, Shindo partakes in a workshop with Joanne Meschery.
2005
The thesis semester. Shindo does most of the work from home and compiles Resplendence in an unorthodox presentation, tweaking the template. Image and text is presented together in a book format.
Shindo teaches at San Diego City College for one and a half years.
Shindo returns to the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising to teach English Composition.
2006
Shindo blog created on Blogspot. “If You Want To Go To Grad School” is serialized on the blog.
Brief “unauthorized biography” of Harold Jaffe created on Wikipedia, along with articles on Fiction International and Larry McCaffery.
Brief stint at labor union disrupts Shindo’s literary life. While he feels his hectic experience at the office provides him with material for the blog, he abstains as blogging puts workers at risk. However, the labor union doesn’t work out.
2007
New year begins with dismissal from labor union. A mixed blessing, Shindo decides to focus on writing and return to teaching.
Blog entries become more frequent and Shindo begins to write for Helium.
