and for the TIDAL BORES at MANTUA Bridge
and TIDAL VIEW FARM at Miller Creek
The predicted times for the tidal bore on the St Croix River as it comes into view from the viewing site at Tidal View Farm (TVF) (GPS 45° 00’ 38.6” N, 64° 04’ 23.1” W) , and as viewed from the bridge on Avondale Rd going to Mantua (MB) (GPS 44° 59’ 40” N, 64° 02’ 19.5” W), just off Route 14, both sites are near Windsor, Hants County, N.S., . The TVF bore happens about 40 minutes before the bore at MB.   LOW and HIGH tide times are for the Avon River at Windsor, N.S.  These times are approximately 10 minutes (+/-5 min) earlier than high and low times in the Minas Basin.   Tide height given in these schedules, is the vertical rise in tide height, from LOW water to HIGH water, typical of the Minas Basin.

A tidal bore happens approximately 2 times each day. In the SIMPLIFIED schedule only the tides that give the significant daytime tidal bore have been selected .  The Red tide height indicates the strongest tides which produce a more pronounced tidal bore.

Tidal View Farm at Miller Creek, about 3.5 km northwest of Mantua bridge (GPS 45° 00’ 38.6” N, 64° 04’ 23.1” W).  Another good tidal bore occurs on the Kennetcook River about 1 hour later than Tidal View Farm OR 20 minutes after the bore at Mantua bridge. It can be seen north of Scotch Village, off highway #236, from the bridge (GPS 45° 03’ 47.5” N, 64° 00’ 17.7” W), approximately a 12 minutes drive northeast from Mantua Bridge. At the Coast Gas and convenience store at Scotch Village look for the North River Road sign.

NOTE: One can get a good  prediction for the tidal bore at Mantua Bridge by adding 4 hours to the preceeding low tide time at Windsor. The site linked below gives Windsor tide for the 2 days on which you make the first hit to the site.  Once you get the current tide chart, scroll down a bit and you will see that the site will let you enter a different date for tide prediction. The bore prediction you make with the +4hours will get you on the bridge about 10 or 15 minutes early. (One should always arrive a little early)
