The group has organized for the purpose of creating an appropriate community memorial as a tribute to the Margaret King School that was built in the comunity of Pugwash Junction by the late Cyrus Eaton.     A former resident of the community, Cyrus Eaton, received his early education at the Pugwash Junction School, a one room school located nearby.  Margaret King School replaced it in 1929. A favourite teacher of Cyrus Eaton was Margaret L. King..

The photo above shows the former site of the Margaret King School in Pugwash Junction, Nova Scotia. It ceased functioning as a community school in the 1960s when the amalgamation of schools within Pugwash District expanded to include all students from Pugwash Junction.    The purpose of this website is:
to be a tribute to Margaret King School   and
to be a focus for information and contact for those interested in this memorial project.  Watch for progress updates and meeting reports posted to this site as they become available.

MISSION STATEMENT
Friends of the Margaret King School Society
Veritas Omnia Vincit”

The Friends of the Margaret King School Society shall be a cohesive force
for preserving the memory of the Margaret King School by:

a)  Representing The Margaret King School Society to government, businesses and individuals
     for financial and/or moral support.

b)  Promote the preservation of  the memory of:
    1)  The Margaret King School.
The construction of the school was totally financed by the industrialist Cyrus Eaton in
recognition of his favourite teacher,  Margaret King.

    2)  The earlier school that he and other notable Pugwash Junction children attended at
                 the nearby site.

c)  To create a permanent monument and documentation to the memory of these two very
important schools (covering the period of the late 1800's - 1960) which are a significant part
of the Pugwash area history.  We want the next generations to inherit the knowledge of the
influence these two schools had on Northumberland residents and the world beyond.
