Aunt Ella died quite peacefully early on May 15, 2008. Born September 27, 1926, she was 81. She was an aunt who was a regular part of my growing up years and in the early lives of my brothers and sisters.   We always looked forward to the regular visits she and Uncle Alvin made to our home.  My very first long range trip made in my childhood recollection was made possible by Aunt Ella and Uncle Alvin. We went to Uncle Robert’s place in West Alba, near Orangedale, Cape Breton.  Even through this winter, Aunt Ella had continued to be a regular and most welcome visitor with our family in Pugwash Junction.

A few favourite words from Desiderata:

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence....

Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings....
You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life
keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Max Ehrmann, Desiderata, c 1920
