SHAWN HITCHINS
PERFORMER|WRITER|GINGER
Shawn Hitchins is a unique talent with a striking stage presence and alluring charm. Influenced by Bette Midler, Sandra Bernhard and David Cross, Shawn departs from cabaret and musical theatre by infusing music and monologue and stand-up together to create a rocking, dangerously human theatrical experience. An audience member should expect not only to be entertained but also to be provoked by the underlying themes and topics in his work.
Hitchins began his career playing ensemble roles in summer stock. He trained as a dancer/singer/actor, but after graduating from the Second City Conservatory Toronto he gravitated towards solo performance and stand-up. Since then, Hitchins’s has been a featured comedian at the Chicago Improv Festival, Homo Night in Canada, MTV’s 5 Gays 1 Girl, Much Music, Wet and Sticky, Proud FM, A Night of Passion, and We're Funny That Way.
In 2005, Hitchins collaborated with the the zany comedy troop, The B-Girlz. Dragged Across America toured the North American cabaret scene from Halifax to Mexico to the infamous Post Office Cabaret in Provincetown. His first short film “Degrassi B-Girlz High” a send up of the cult TV show, screened at the 2006 Toronto, Calgary, Dallas and Honolulu Gay and Lesbian Film Festivals. After a brief absence he rejoined the Girlz in 2007 to co-create, “B-Girlz Gone Wild.”
In December 2006, Hitchins completed a four year directing apprenticeship with veteran director and mentor George Bloomfield. Through this mentorship he learned the creative and production aspects of the film and television industry.
