No tech hugs.

Remember when people worried about being replaced by robots.  Factories automated assembly lines,. And we’re still worrying - scared that technology will replace our human interaction - emails substituting face to face conversations and a good game of Monopoly being swapped out by an afternoon in front of the Xbox.

I was traveling this week and the kids and my husband behind with schedules and notes, clean laundry and groceries.  Less than 24 hours after my departure my daughter came down

Face to face with Facebook

Last night I had the pleasure of presenting to parents in Randolph, Vermont - a charming small New England town concerned like may about allowing their children to participate in social networking sites, like MySpace and Facebook.  So, instead of just talking about these sites, the nuances and pitfalls and safety features, we learned about social networking in the best possible way.  We created our own.

Last week I had the opportunity to participate in a panel on Capitol Hill sponsored by the Freedom and Progress Foundation regarding the importance of Internet safety education.   You can read a quick recap of the event here.

I’ll admit that it was pretty amazing to be in D.C. speaking on something that I’ve spent almost three years researching and writing about. The best part was connecting with my new colleagues - Larry Magid, co-author of MySpace Unraveled, and Nancy Willard, cyberbully

From my daughter’s first cell phone to my son’s obsession with a video games, I blog away about the challenges of juggling kids and technology, installing virus protection with one hand, packing school lunches with another and trying to figure whose coat pocket, backpack or back pocket is chiming an Ode to Joy ringtone.
