I finally overcame my own hurdles this weekend when I competed in a small local 5K race and ran my personal best time, earning me 1st place in my age division and I was 3rd in overall women. I don’t think the trophy meant as much to me as did reaching my goal time. In addition to all of this, we set course records to which we will have to go back and break next year : )
(This race was SUPER small--so it served as a great ego boost to me after the last race. Regardless, it was a ton of fun and worth it to break my own mental road blocks).
******If any of you read this and think to yourself, “I can’t do that”, I want you to get off your butts and make a goal to compete in some sort of race. You will surprise yourself, and nothing beats the feeling of accomplishment you get when you set out to do something that you didn’t think you were capable of. This race marks the one year mark of me starting to run, and when I first started, I could not complete a single mile without needing to stop and walk, but it was a start. And even if you can’t run at all to begin, it’s still a start. Go online and find yourself a local 5k run. Give yourself a month or two to prepare, and make it your goal to run the entire thing (no matter how slow you have to pace yourself). You won’t be sorry, I promise!!!!!
