Wreck Prep and Recycle

Episode 3: After a brief hiatus from the project, we decided to get back into the swing of things with a little destruction. We demoed old drywall, removed old shutters, installed reused windows and began prepping for the greenhouse. Yon won’t believe the deal we found on windows at the Habitat for Humanity Restore of Elkhart County. Penny also visits VIM recycling in Goshen, Indiana to see how drywall can be turned into an agricultural soil amendment.

Where Is Our Housing Stimulus

Episode 6:  During the time this episode was being filmed, we started to feel a financial pinch.  We hadn’t run out of money set aside for the project but were concerned that if we didn’t reduce our spending we might not have enough money for the larger projects like a heating and cooling system.  The lack of funds did not slow us down.  We decided to deplete all materials on hand in order to rebuild our cash reserve.

We’ve Been Framed

Episode 7: In this episode we make a push towards some major milestones such as tiling, shoring up the building, framing several rooms and installing the main entry and patio doors.  When our project receives a jolt, literally, with the electrical line installation, we see major physical changes to the interior of the building!

Episode 8: As the project moved along, we found ourselves repeating the same tasks over and over - framing, cleaning and pulling nails.  So instead of showing repetitive action, we will share some of the highlights of our second summer!  Plus Penny visits Anco Products Inc. to see how insulation in made.

Episode 9:  In the last episode (2008 Summer Highlights) thing began to be repetitive.  In this episode it was the exact opposite as we jump around from project to project never fully completing any.  On top of everything we were up against a building permit deadline.
