This isn’t as much about pre-promoting as it is about creating an aura about you and the time that you’re on.  During the time that you inhabit the studio is a time that listeners do not want to miss!

That’s because listeners don’t know what’s coming next.

Examples

  1. You’ll have brand new music that’s never been heard before.

  2. You may have another interview with that kid who likes to flash people at the mall.

• You’ll deliver puppies live on the air.

•  For the rest of your broadcast will be in Spanish.

• You’ll give away free fish.

• For an hour you broadcast in Morris Code.

• For some reason a monkey with a bell is doing the broadcast instead of you.

• Every time you talk the listener hears a cell phone ringing.

• You’re tracking the Nevermind cd all the way through “because you wanna.”

  1. You do your show in a whisper.

  2. Play promos for stupid features that don’t exist.

  3. Promote big time interviews and then when it’s time for the actual discussion tell listeners that the interviewee had to cancel due to a doctor’s appointment or IRS audit.

• You’re broadcasting from a lounge chair at the corner of 35th and Main... no reason... you just like it there.

• It’s commando thursday and all listeners much listen to you without underwear.

  1. A “pirate station” keeps interrupting your broadcast with love songs of the 60s and 70s and you continue broadcasting like you have no idea what’s going on.

  2. You’re making fresh Banana Nut Bread on the show and you’re giving it away by the loaf!

  3. Today your program is brought to you by the number 3.

  4. You’re doing a wine tasting with three people you met at an AA meeting.

OK, so these are silly examples but there are hundreds of thousands things you can do to get attention and with time make listeners feel that if they turn you off they may miss out!

Side note,

I’ve done all these things or had jocks execute these things at stations I’ve been involved with or programmed.

  1. 10. Make listeners feel that if they leave you they will miss something.
