Plain man blues

PLAIN MAN BLUES is the story of “Daddy” Mack Orr and his quest to be a great Bluesman.  Mack’s story doesn’t start and end where you would think.  He is not your stereotypical Blues musician.  He isn’t a drunk, he has been married and faithful to the same woman for over 40 years, he’s never been arrested and he hasn’t been a musician that long.

As Mack tells it, he was sitting in his auto repair shop in North Memphis when an Albert King tune came on the radio.  He decided right then that he was going to get himself a guitar and learn to play the Blues.  Did we mention that he was 45-years-old at the time?  A 45-year-old, former sharecropper from Como, MS was about to teach himself how to play Blues guitar.

After years of constant practicing that, in his wife Dorothy’s words, “Drove me nuts,” Mack learned not to just play but exceed as a Blues guitarist.

Mack got so good that he was able to sit-in and then later join the legendary Memphis Blues band, The Fieldstones.  After the Fieldstones broke up, “Daddy” Mack started his own band - The Daddy Mack Blues Band.

The band has recorded three successful CDs - “Fix It When I Can,” “Slow Ride,” and “Bluestones.”  PLAIN MAN BLUES takes you into the recording studio and through the process  of the making and marketing of “Bluestones.”  But that is only part of the documentary.

PLAIN MAN BLUES is a look at a man who has survived and lived on his own terms.  He worked hard all his life to provide for his family - first in the cotton fields and later as a mechanic. When he saw there was time to try and achieve his goal of being a great Blues artist, Mack took the opportunity.  He takes the Blues seriously but he takes life’s responsibilities to heart.  He lives life without frills so he can work at his dream.  PLAIN MAN BLUES takes you along for the ride.
