"There is nothing which has yet been contrived by man, by which so much happiness is
produced as by a good inn or tavern." -- Samuel Johnson, 1776

The Guest House is a renovated Chicago three-flat that retains a scant few exterior features from its construction in 1891, part of the re-build across the city after the Great Fire of 1871. It is a quiet retreat in the midst of lively city life, in a neighborhood of beautiful century-old homes and mansions.

In the neighborhood:
“Public Enemies” was released July 1, 2009, starring Johnny Depp as gangster John Dillinger. The final scenes were filmed a block from the Guest House in June 2008. A notorious thief and murderer, Dillinger was shot by the FBI on July 22, 1934 as he exited the Biograph Theatre at 2433 N Lincoln Avenue. Depp and Christian Bale (also with a starring role) are not the only celebs to hang in the neighborhood. Richard Gere was filmed one block east at John Barleycorn’s Pub for the 1996 film “Primal Fear.” Meg Ryan starred with Alec Baldwin in “Prelude to a Kiss” (1992), filmed at a century-old greystone at nearby 562 W. Arlington Place.
