Have you ever met a turtle you didn’t like? I haven’t. Little kids in the early 70s liked them, too. But since all reptiles harbor salmonella, the turtle-owning children would too often contract salmonellosis, especially after putting the then popular red slider babies into their mouths, so an FDA ban on the sale of baby turtles went into effect in 1975.

 

Collect these pretty vintage turtles instead! It’s safer.
