Once again we had a beautiful morning on this mountain! It’s amazing that almost all the campers showed up at 7:30 for breakfast! They are actually going to bed and SLEEPING each night! That is a tremendous help because so much energy is required during the day.
The schedule today was very similar to yesterday – worship, small groups and tracks. The leaders are all involved, prepared and enthusiastic as they work with the students. It is a joy to watch!
Afternoon
This afternoon at 1:00 we made a group photo of all the campers and staff with the most gorgeous backdrop imaginable! (no green screen here!- check it out here.)
In the afternoon, Joshua Yoo organized a football game during free time for all who wanted to play. It was the Dream Team vs. YPAC Allstars and the score was 14-14. Even some of the girls played! (Moms, in case you were wondering, no one got hurt!)
Gift Giver Showcase
In the evening, we continued the Gift Giver Showcase. There were nine separate offerings to the Lord tonight. The Gift Givers were introduced by Pawnee Camp.
David Van Tassell played a rhythmic compilation of original and Red Hot Chili Peppers piece on his bass guitar accompanied by Stan Belle on drums. The All About Kids Production Camp Staff sang and danced to “Every Season.” Lana and Rachel Morgan sang while Rachel Shiflett, Danielle Morgan, Chassity Matlick and Brittany Baker danced.
Joo Eun Yoo played a portion of “Concerto No.1 in G Minor” on her violin. Trace Forbes and Jake McCarty played their guitars and sang “Getting Into You.” Paige Shircliff offered a powerful human video to “Sunday’s On Its Way” by Carmen.
Grace Yoo played “Composition in G” on her cello. Matt Lefevre played “Valaro” on his classical guitar. The El Bethel Liturgical Dance Group danced to “You Are My God.” A string trio was played by the Yoo sisters with Brittany Baker accompanying them. All of the artists offered their gifts as a praise to the Lord.
Anytime we all come together as a group to worship, it involves so many people to make it happen: the stage crew was wonderfully invisible and the tech crew responded effortlessly to the spontaneity of worship.
Joel Goddard led worship with several songs, “I Don’t Know Where I’m Going to Be Tomorrow,” “Nothing But the Blood of Jesus,” “Victory in Jesus,” and “There is Power in the Blood.”
The Message
Trent Kirkland, camp pastor, discussed the MTV show “Made,” a show about people who want to be made into something different. He asked the campers what they thought would make a good “Made” episode. One response was “A librarian who wants to be an NHL Hockey player.” Trent’s suggestion was “Redneck who wants to be MADE into an opera singer!”
Trent said we are MADE To Shine. In 2 Cor. 5:17, Paul wrote, Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! (NIV)
He mentioned several people who were made into something different after an encounter with Jesus: Zacchaeus, the demoniac and the woman at the well.
Trent asked the question, Has your salvation experience changed you? These things are new once we have been made a new creation.
We have a new:
-
Relationship with Christ
-
Rights – We have access to God as sons and daughters. We can go boldly to the throne of grace.
-
Reward – We will live forever with Him in heaven
-
Responsibility to the One who made us
The nature of salvation (what Christ has done for us) compels us to SHINE!
He created us to shine. What are we to shine? His glory. He wants to lead us to a place where the life of Christ literally comes out of us. We belong to the One who has changed us.
Trent provided an opportunity for campers to respond to the Lord while Joel led the campers in singing, “Light of the World.”
After the response time, Joel challenged them to sing a “new song” – fresh from your heart – the Bible doesn’t say you can only sing if you can sing well. Joel told them, “If you can’t make a joyful sound then make a righteous racket.” If your heart is right, “it’s in tune when it reaches Him anyway.” We look at the outward appearance, God looks on the heart. Use your gifts for the Lord – not to look good before people. They didn’t die for you or set you free.
He suggested to the camper to turn to the Psalms and just start singing them. He told them, the Bible didn’t come with a CD, so you can use any style you want to worship the Lord. What do you want to say? Search your heart.
“You don’t have what it takes to make God mad, the last time someone made God mad he flooded the place.” (Joel’s grandfather)
Turn your heart toward the Lord and see what He wants to sing over us.
Joel began playing the keyboard and asked the campers to just sing whatever words the Lord gave them.
Joel then led them in worshiping with “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross/The Wonderful Cross,” “We Exalt Thee,” “The Heart of Worship” and “Because He Lives.”

FEATURED TRACKS
Vocal Music
“We sing praise to the King all day long in the vocal music track! Today we worked to hone vocal harmonies, singing techniques and ensemble performance. We also studied a bit of music theory, had fun dancing as a step squad and heard a powerful testimony from the camp’s worship leader.”
Instrumental
“On this second day of camp, we really begin to sink our teeth into some great orchestral selection. We worked hard and enjoyed bringing out the heartfelt and powerful nuances of each selection. We also continued our development as high level musicians by participation in a music theory class.
Following our ensemble/sectional rehearsals, we had the opportunity to spend time as a group with the worship leader for the week, Joel Goddard. He shared in depth about his personal spiritual journey.”
