What a beautiful morning! The air was clear, the sun was shining and the view from the mountain was breathtaking! Our day began with breakfast and worship with Trent Kirkland and Michael Morgan. Joel Goddard is the worship leader for the week, but was unable to participate in worship because his little girl, Jayden, fell off of her bicycle this morning at camp and had to be taken to hospital for stitches.
After worship, campers went to their small groups and met with their tracks.
In the evening, we had our first Gift Giver Showcase. Six campers offered their gifts to the Lord tonight. The Gift Givers were introduced by Pawnee Camp.
Ha Eun Yoo’s incredible presentation of “Concerto in E Minor” on her violin was truly inspired! Kassie Sandacz’s sweet spirit shined through as she sang “No Greater Love.” Chassity Matlick danced to Life Song revealing her classical training. Matt Durden and Dan Whalen played guitars and sang an original song by Matt. Beth Vaughn played two enchanting pieces on the harp, a Celtic piece – “Solstice ReEl” and “Be Thou My Vision.” Wesley Jernigan made his debut tonight playing his guitar and singing “My Savior, My God.”
The stage crew worked together tonight and made the transitions flow smoothly.
Joel Goddard began leading in worship by singing one of his original songs:
I Don't Know Where I'm Gonna Be Tomorrow
(John 14:2) ©1997 written by Joel Goddard, Mark Snider & Brent Garrard
Chorus
I don't know where I'm gonna be tomorrow
But I know where I've been
I've been with Jesus and I'm gonna stay with Him until the end
Cuz I was a flesh pleasing, pleasure loving,
double minded, mouth running, back biting, spirit fighting,
thought my life was real exciting, church skipping,
hell seeking, lost and dying in my sin
But now I'm born again, saved from sin, trust in Him until the end,
hand raising, Jesus praising, Spirit filled and screaming amen,
crushing Satan, much awaiting. Jesus is coming again.
After singing the song, Joel invited Paige Shircliff and Wesley Jernigan to sing on stage with him.
Joel cautioned the campers about singing lyrics truthfully. He quoted Martin Luther, who said, “We don’t tell lies, we sing them.” Joel led, “Open the Eyes of My Heart, Lord” and asked the campers if they really wanted God to do that. He reminded them that we all need to deny ourselves because it is all about God, not us.
Trent Kirkland, the camp pastor, talked about John 1:1-4, 5. He had a green screen placed behind him and said it teaches an important truth. He explained that a green screen is used in movies. Actors and actresses perform in front of the green screen and later the background is dropped in. So, the actors/actresses are not really where they appear to be. He said a lot of people live as if they are in front of a green screen, never realizing that the battle we are in is for real. There are two opposing forces in the world – light and darkness.
John 1:5 says, “The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.” (NIV) Trent explained that the word “understood” means to “overpower or overcome.”
Trent went on to say darkness can never overpower the light; but light can be removed to reveal the darkness. God’s master plan is to fill the earth with light. He has chosen to spread the light through the “lit lives” of His people. Everyday when we decide to do what is right, we’re creating an environment around us where darkness can’t survive.
Trent concluded by saying, “We’re not bystanders in the battle. We don’t live in front of a green screen…. Determine to get lit by Christ’s light this week.”
Joel challenged the campers saying God has a pocketful of new songs, dances, lyrics. Ask Him to give you inspiration for new songs and dances this week. You do not have to follow the world. He can allow new things to come out of you.
Following worship, campers took up Joel’s challenge and gathered all over campus. One group did write a new song to “This Little Light of Mine” and lead a large group in singing it in the HeBrews coffee shop.

Graphic Design
Today the students learned the basic concepts of graphic design. They also began to learn and use Adobe’s Photoshop Elements to design some worship graphics and to begin working on a corporate logo.

Film and Video
Everyone broke up into groups and assigned roles to produce their short story/music video. (writer, director, director of photography, editor, art design and actors.)
Next we talked about the importance of the story and how everything rises and falls on it and that God is glorified when we tell stories of truth and beauty.
All the groups picked out their songs, wrote their one page treatments of what story would be set to the song and finally we went over the purpose of story boarding. Each group storyboarded out their entire film. Andrew Bowser and Joseph Petrick did a great job in helping me teach and helping the kids craft their concepts.
