79th Academy Awards® : Makeup Symposium (audio)

The 79th Academy Awards® Oscar-Nominated Makeup Artists and Hair Stylists Symposium was hosted by Leonard Engelman, the first Makeup Branch Governor on the Board of Governors for the Motion Picture Academy.  Roughly 120 makeup artist and hairstylist members of the Academy were given branch status by the Academy’s Board of Governors in October. They were previously included among members-at-large, a membership group that is represented by the Board as a whole.  Engelman’s credits include “Moonstruck,” “The Accidental Tourist,” “Sleepless in Seattle” and “Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas.”

2007 showcased the perfect film trio that depicts the very vast range that is the "Art of Makeup". Ten minute clips for each film were shown to represent the complexities of the hair and makeups of each.

PAN’S LABYRINTH (Mexico & Spain) WINNER
Fantasy characters that are so believable, we continue to hope they are only fantasy.
Two characters so fully developed that we lose sight that there are humans (Doug Jones)
beneath those makeups.  A faun so convincing that in a short period of time we see only
the animal.  And a corpse so starved that the flacid flesh hangs from its bones, only in
Pan's Labyrinth.
