Sparta Mountain Day 2009 - Livestrong 5K Walk/Run FAQ's:

*How do I Register for the 5K Sparta Mountain Day Livestrong Walk/Run Event and the Sparta Mountain Day 2009 Environmental Activities?
1. For the 5K Event -  Please send Mitch Morrison an email at mmorrison@nac.net and tell him that you will participate in the 5K and then go this link to register:

This $25. donation goes directly to the Lance Armstrong Livestrong Foundation. Thank you!!!

2. For the Sparta Mountain Day 2008 Environmental Activities Events - Please send Mitch Morrison an email at mmorrison@nac.net and tell him which activities you would like to attend.

Please register now for both events.  This will help us with our planning.

*Where do the Sparta Mountain Day 2009 Activities Take Place?
1. The 5K Event starts at Edison Park (located at the corner of Edison Terrance and Edison Raod

2.  The main Sparta Mountain Day 2009 Environmental Activities takes place starting at 10am at the Ryker's Lake on Edison Road in Sparta.  The Entrance to Ryker's Lake is approximately 300 meters from the corner of Edison Road and Glen Road in Sparta.   Ryker's Lake is a quick 7 minute walk down the dirt road from this entrance.  Please park on Edison Terrace which is approximately 300 meter from the Rykers Lake entrance.

Please note:
-The Audubon birding walks start at 8am at Rykers Lake.  These walks end by 10am.
-The Mining Tours take place at the Edison Monument (on Edison Road).  The first tour starts at 10am and the second tour starts at 12 noon.

*What about bad weather?
-The Livestrong 5K Walk/Run takes place rain or shine.  Lightning will stop the event.
-The Sparta Mountain Day 2009 Environmental Activities will be cancelled if there is heavy, consistent rain or if there is lightning.
Registered participants (those who have supplied email addresses) will receive an email by 9am on 5/16/09 if we need to cancel the Environmental activities.

*Where do we Park for the Livestrong 5K Event Walk/Run?

Park on Edison Terrace.

*Where do we Park for the Sparta Mountain Day Ryker's Lake Environmental Activities starting at 10am?

Please arrive by 9:45am for the major events and park on Edison Terrace which is located approximately 300 meters from the Ryker's Lake entrance on Edison Road.  It is a 7 minute walk down to Ryker's Lake.

Please arrive by 7:45am and park at this Edison Terrace location for the 8am Birding walks at Ryker's Lake.  Please arrive by 9:45am at the Edison Monument location (on Edison Road) for the 10am Mining Tours.

*What do I Bring?

Livestrong 5K: Please wear weather-appropriate walking/running gear, bring water  and identification.  We will have water to offer at stations along the 5K route.
All other Sparta Mountain Day Activities:  Please wear weather-appropriate outdoor gear, bring water, a snack. bring your cell phone, hiking or work boots.

*What Time do the Events Start and End?
The 5K starts at 9am and ends at 10:30am.  Anyone still on the Edison Road course after 10:15am will be asked if they would like to be picked up by our car.
The Environmental Events start at 10am and end at 1pm at Rykers Lake.
The NJ Audubon Birding Walks start at 8am and end at 10am at Rykers Lake.
The Mining Tours start at 10am and then again at 11 noon and end at 1pm.

*Are Children able to participate in the 5K Walk/Run?
Yes.  

*Are the walk and run held on the same 5K course?
Yes.  The runners will start their run at exactly 9am.  The walkers will start their walk one minute later.

*Will there be food and beverage service on-site?
There will be water available along the 5k route. There will not be any food or beverages offered during the other activities.

*May I bring my Pet?
No. Pets are not allowed at these events. Thank you for understanding.

*Will there be a secure area to leave my belongings.
No, there will not be a secure area to leave your belongings.  Please keep all valuables with you. 

*What is the Minimum age requirement for the 5K Event?
There is none.

*May I just register my child?
All children must be accompanied by an adult and all participants must be registered.  Please remember that your Livestrong 5K registration is a donation to Livestrong.

*What is the deadline for registration?
Please register now for your chosen events for planning purposes.  Please do not wait until the last minute.

5K Walk/Run Recommendations:
-Start your doctor-recommended training program now.
-Participants might want to walk/run the course in advance.
-On May 16th eat an easily digestible dinner and get a full nights sleep. 
-Wake up early on the 17th and warm up appropriately and drink plenty of water.  
-This is a fun walk/run.  Please walk/run at your own comfortable pace.
-If you should feel that you need to stop then stop.  Please notify one of the volunteers if you would like to be driven off the course.
-Drink plenty of water during and after the walk/run.
-Have fun with this event.  Thank you very much for participating!!!!


Will there be any giveaway items at the Sparta Mountain Day 2009 Environmental Activities Events?
Yes. We have Lance Armstrong Livestrong Wristbands to give away on a first come first served basis starting at 8am at Rykers Lake.
