Sandy Laipply’s Entry in Eileen Hull’s Sizzix Scoreboard Blog Hop-Cake Die Tool Caddy
My friend and talented designer Eileen Hull has developed a terrific line of Scoreboard dies for Sizzix and I’m participating in the Blog Hop to showcase them I’ve been really busy lately and haven’t had time to blog much but I really wanted to participate in this Hop. It’s so much fun to see what everyone comes up with! This time we are to use the cake die. I knew I wanted to do something totally different, and I wanted to use fabrics I designed, so here’s my project.
I used 2 sets of the die cuts for this project. I started by painting 2 of the scalloped circles with Delta’s Blue Lagoon paints-both sides. When they were dry, I distressed them for a shabby chic look. Next I taped the scored side sections of the “cake” together in pairs, and then taped all 3 sections together . This made a piece about 6” by 7 ½”. I bent on all the score lines, and cut 2 sections off of one long side. I glued my fabric on this piece, wrapping it around with the piece bent, and overlapping all sides. I pressed the long ends under on a piece of co-ordinating fabric and glued it to the inside of my shape. The outsides are trimmed with white lace and a strip of turquoise fiber.
I
I made my yo-yos from 7” circles of a third fabric from this collection, and glued them to the ends. A turquoise button from my stash covers all the gathers, and flat backed pearls finish the ends off.
I used hot glue to adhere the ends to the center, and added tiny white sheer bows. Now I have the perfect holder for all my little sewing aids, right at my fingertips!
Here’s what the underside looks like. You can see the segments from the die cut here.
Here’s a FREE download of one of the images from this project. It’s 8 1/2 by 11, and you will need to print it in landscape mode. Enjoy, and please leave me a comment if you download.

Several other designers have also created projects with this die and you can click on their links below to visit them all. If you enjoyed seeing these ScoreBoard projects on the hop, please leave a comment here or on Eileen Hull's blog so we know you stopped by. This makes you eligible for a random drawing for a ScoreBoards die! Keep in mind that we’re all in different time zones, so some of the projects may not be published yet. Now let the hopping begin!
