Icelandic Sheepdog International Breeders
Icelandic Sheepdog International Breeders
Welcome to Icelandic Sheepdogs International Breeders
Please note that we are not a club but....
We are a group of mostly hobby breeders who are banding together to make it easier for people to find an Icelandic Sheepdog puppy or adult to adopt. We provide a central website for the listing of dogs. This central location is designed to reduce the number of searches you have to do. Members may be located in any country. Our dogs belong to some of the best kennel clubs in the world including kennel clubs in Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, the United States, etc.
If you do decide to import a puppy from another country, please check on the rules. Please review all health information before importing a dog into your own country. Good healthy Icelandics with great temperaments can be found in any country. Be very careful when importing. Dogs from outside your country may be better than, as good as, or worse than dogs from your own country. If you do decide to import, please ask for help. Many of our breeders have imported and exported dogs themselves and are experienced. Adding genetic diversity to your country’s gene pool is very important but none of us wants to add bad genes.
Dogs are living breathing animals. We all try to give the puppies we produce the best possible start in life. Most of us screen the dogs we buy to ensure they are as healthy genetically as possible. We look at their ancestors in order to prevent the spread of genetic issues and problems. We screen for the presence of those issues and problems and include the results of those tests on our websites or blogs. However, adopters should realize that all dogs, just like all humans and any other animal, can carry hidden recessive genes that may show up unannounced in their offspring even after several generations of lying dormant.
We have asked members to list important relevant facts about their adult breeding dogs. We have provided a sheet for doing that. That sheet may be displayed on their website or blog. Please note: Not all of the information needs to be displayed on the sheet in order to list a litter. Many or most breeders will include the information on their website in a more casual way.
We have made up a list of questions that you might want to ask the breeder. You will find the link at the top of this page. Add your own questions to this list – please. If a breeder is unwilling or unable to respond to questions, you may want to try another breeder. Above all, you should feel comfortable discussing anything with the breeder.
