HONOR FLIGHT

Three Rotary Clubs of Volusia County combined forces to honor 100 World War II veterans by flying them to Washington, DC to tour the World War II Memorial on May 17th, 2008.  The Veterans were greeted with a heroes welcome of a military band and water cannons.  The Veterans boarded chartered tour buses at the airport and were driven with Police escort to the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., where they visited the memorial, met Senator Bob Dole, and reminisced with other Veterans about their experiences. Afterwards, the veterans boarded the buses for lunch and a tour of the other notable sites in the Washington, D.C. area, such as the White House, Capitol, and the Supreme Court.  A second stop was made at the Vietnam War Memorial. The third and final stop was made at Arlington National Cemetery, where Veterans can visit the United States Marines War Memorial. In addition, three Veterans will be selected to form an honor guard to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns.
