An AED for Everyone
An AED for Everyone
As sailors, we are often away from the traditional emergency medical response system (ambulance, paramedics, emergency room), yet a heart attack can happen anywhere, including at a regatta. Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation, known as, CPR with defibrillation (shocking the heart to restart it) can increase survival of a heart attack by 45-75% if it occurs within 5 minutes of the event. Think about how long it could take for emergency assistance to reach a sailor on the water. Most likely it is much longer than 5 minutes! Some yacht clubs have AEDs, however they are often left at the dock and not with the race committee on the water. Granted, they are needed in both places. The AED we have is the only one on the market to be water resistant and it only weighs 2 ¼ pounds which is perfect for the sailing community! We will make our AED available at regattas to the race committee when we attend an event and we will provide education to the sailing community about how important this little machine is in saving lives. Our goal is to have AEDs on Race Committee boats for everything from beer can racing to major events. Anyone who goes offshore to race or cruise should also consider this device. It’s always better to be safe! Please inquire at info@sail22.com to find out how we can assist your yacht club or event in keeping sailors safe!
