Life Near the Park

This past Memorial Day weekend, Lauren and I met our friends Victoria, Michael and Kelly from Nashville in Chicago.

We stayed at Bed & Breakfast at Monastery on the  South Side. A GREAT place to stay. The breakfast was phenomenal each morning. Brother Edward was very helpful. We were within walking distance of the Orange Line ‘L” as well as many great places in Bridgeport and U.S. Cellular Field. Michael and I discovered a great local tavern our first night called Bernices.

Saturday we hit the tourist sites - Magnificent Mile, Navy Pier, John Hancock Building, and Millenium Park. I have been up the Hancock in the past, however, I had not ever been to the Signature Lounge. The lounge is actually 2 floors above the Observatory Deck and 1 Floor above the Signature Room Restaurant. Also, it is free to ride up there, you just need to order drinks or food. Great view of the city from here.

We also enjoyed a great meal from Hugo’s Frog Bar. Owned by the same people as Gibson’s Steak House is it located right next door on Rush Street.

Michael and I went to a Sox game on Sunday while the girls went to see Wicked. Fun was had by all, despite the outcome of the game. The Sox were good - for about 4 innings and then they pretty much gave up. Following the game, Michael and I hit Jimbo’s, the most well known watering hole for Sox fans following a game. Jimbo’s is closing following the season. I’m glad we made it there once.

Finally, we all went to the Cubs game Monday. The Cubs were pretty much their inept selves until the 9th inning when they finally scored 3 runs. Unfortunately , they were down by 5 runs at the time. Following the game we had one last jaunt down Rush Street and then it was time to head back home.
