Dr. Rajiv Sabherwal is a University of Missouri System Curators’ Professor, the Emery C. Turner Professor of Information Systems, and Director, Ph.D. program in business administration, at University of Missouri, St. Louis. The Chronicle of Higher Education ranked our UMSL IS Area Faculty as third among 375 universities in Faculty Scholarly Productivity in 2007.
Dr. Sabherwal’s research focuses on knowledge management, business intelligence, information systems strategy and success, and social aspects of systems development. It has been published in journals such as Management Science, Information Systems Research, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, Organization Science, MIS Quarterly, California Management Review, Communications of the ACM, Journal of MIS, and Decision Sciences. He has co-authored a textbook on knowledge management, and is currently co-authoring a textbook on business intelligence.
Dr. Sabherwal teaches a doctoral course on foundations of IS research, and graduate courses on Knowledge Management and Business Intelligence and Management Information Systems. He has previously taught doctoral courses on information systems management and quantitative methods; graduate and professional courses on project management, information and technology management, e-commerce, information systems planning, and global applications of information technology; and undergraduate courses on organizational impacts of information technology, systems management, and systems analysis and design.
Prior to joining the University of Missouri-St. Louis in August 2000, Dr. Sabherwal taught at Florida State University (1999-2000) and Florida International University (1988-1999). He was Visiting Professor in the Department of Information Systems, National University of Singapore, during Summer 2004. He earned a Ph.D. in business administration from the Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh (1989), a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (1983), and a Bachelors in Engineering (Electronics) from Regional Engineering College, Bhopal, India (1981). He is a member of Academy of Management, Association for Information Systems (AIS), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. (IEEE), and Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS).
