RE: SB 537 (Simitian) — Request for Signature
Dear Governor Schwarzenegger:
_____ PTA respectfully requests your favorable action on SB 537 by Senator Simitian. SB 537 would require the California Research Bureau (CRB) to prepare a report on the key elements and actual costs of charter school oversight in consultation with an advisory panel to ensure technical accuracy. The bill would require CRB to submit the report to the Legislature by January 8, 2009,
Along with The California State PTA, ____ PTA supports SB 537 because it would provide data needed to assure that chartering agencies have consistent oversight criteria and sufficient resources to provide oversight of charter school performance. Just as charter schools need adequate resources, their chartering agencies need clear standards for required evaluations and adequate resources to fulfill oversight responsibilities.
Again Governor, I strongly urge you to sign SB 537 into law. Thank you for this opportunity to share our concerns with you.
Sincerely,
