In 2002 Noeleen Heyzer, Executive Director of the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) travelled to Rwanda. She was determined to help the women there, who had suffered terrible atrocities. UNIFEM supporter Willa Shalit responded to Noeleen’s wish and devoted herself to building a business that would bring economic security to these courageous women. She spent three years developing the business. In 2005 Willa teamed up with Ronnie Taffet of Macy’s, and Rwanda Path to Peace was born.
