The 3rd International Conference on School Psychology in Vietnam: Developing Skills and Models of Service Delivery in School Psychology (July 25 - 27, 2012), Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

The Consortium to Advance School Psychology in Vietnam (CASP-V) is proud to announce the 3rd International Conference on School Psychology in Vietnam. The Consortium to Advance School Psychology in Vietnam (CASP-V) was established in January 2010 to institutionalize a growing collaborative between U.S. and Vietnamese universities.  It is the first successful attempt to create a structure for multilateral cooperation among Vietnamese and U.S. educational institutions. Inspired by the desire to better meet the needs of Vietnamese students who experience educational, emotional, or behavioral difficulties, five U.S. universities, eight Vietnamese universities, individual practitioners, and one international professional organization came together to form CASP-V with the primary goal of building the discipline and profession of School Psychology in Vietnam. CASP-V’s approach to accomplishing this goal represents an innovative model of collaboration that involves multiple stakeholders in a process of planning and carrying out curriculum development, collaborative research, professional development workshops and conferences, and support of direct services to children and youth at school psychology centers.

The 3rd International Conference on School Psychology in Vietnam will serve as a forum for Vietnamese and international educators and practitioners to promote an in-depth discussion of (a) school psychology service delivery models, (b) approaches to training and credentialing school psychologists, (c) critical skills needed to deliver school-based psychological services, (d) school-based approaches to preventing and treating emotional and behavioral problems, (e) best practices to adapting psychological assessment instruments for use in Vietnam, and (f) school-based infrastructure to support quality school psychological services.

2012 Annual Meetings of the New England Psychological Association and the Northeast Conference For Teachers of Psychology (October 12 - 13, 2012), Worcester Polytechnic Institute (Worcester, Massachusetts)

The New England Psychological Association (NEPA) and the Northeast Conference for Teachers of Psychology (NECTOP) are pleased to announce that their combined 2012 Annual Meeting will be held at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (Worcester, Massachusetts) during October 12-13. Worcester Polytechnic Institute is an easy commute from New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and most New England states, and thus many attendees will be able to participate without incurring the expense of overnight accommodations. Undergraduate and graduate students can join and register for the NEPA meeting for only $30, with faculty costs nominally higher.

The 2012 Annual NEPA Meeting affords great opportunities for up-and-coming students to credential themselves before applying for graduate school, for recently-graduated students to bring closure to their projects through presentation at a professional meeting, for colleagues at all levels to become involved in a professional association, for faculty at all levels to present research, and for all educators within the psychological sciences to learn more about the teaching of psychology from national experts.

NEPA will accept symposia, papers, and posters representing all areas of the psychological sciences through June 8, 2012, and, after June 8, NEPA will continue to review posters on a space-available through September 21, 2012.

NECTOP will accept posters and Participant Idea Exchanges exclusively related to the teaching of psychology through September 21, 2012.

These deadlines ensure that adequate time is available for the completion of projects during the spring semester. So, if you have promising students completing research projects in research methods courses or as independent studies, new faculty members seeking to establish themselves, research you wish to share, or adjunct colleagues interested in deepening their involvement in the profession we would appreciate your making use of the attached Call For Papers and passing it along to interested colleagues. The NEPA and NECTOP Online Submission Portals are up and running and waiting for you at www.NEPsychological.org!

I thank you for your consideration of this invitation and look forward to seeing members of your institution at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in October.

Please do not hesitate to contact either the NEPA (NEPsychological@Gmail.com) or the NECTOP (NETeachingPsychology@Gmail.com) office when they can be of assistance in any matter related to the 2012 Annual Meeting.

Very truly yours,

Gary M. Brosvic, Ph.D.
Professor and NEPA Association Coordinator

Call for Papers: Conference on Jung in the Academy and Beyond: The Fordham Lectures 100 Years Later (October 26 - 27, 2012), Fordham University, Bronx NY

Carl G. Jung delivered a series of lectures at Fordham University 100 years ago. In many ways they laid out the future development of his work as well as his movement away from Freud.  These lectures were first published in the inaugural edition of the Psychoanalytic Review, and a revised edition is due this winter.

Fordham University in collaboration with the Jungian Psychoanalytic Association of New York seeks to honor the 1911-1912 Jung lectures with a conference that promises to locate Jung in the academy and beyond, in the years when the lectures were delivered and published, today, and in the future.  A two-day conference will be held October 26 and 27, 2012 at Fordham University’s Rose Hill campus, where the lectures were originally held.  On Friday October 26 Sonu Shamdasani (University College London) will present a public lecture.  Other invited speakers  include Joseph Cambray (Harvard Medical School), Eugene Taylor (Saybrook Graduate School and Harvard Medical School), and Ann Ulanov (Union Theological Seminary).

We invite your submissions for brief papers (20 minutes) which may either be stand-alone presentations or may be integrated into panel presentations. These papers will be delivered on Saturday October 27, 2012.  Locating Jung in academia and beyond means welcoming contributions from many disciplines, including but not limited to psychoanalysis, psychology, psychiatry, literature, theology and religious studies, the arts, and history, as well as interdisciplinary fields.

Please submit:
1. title
2. author names and affiliations
3. short 150-250 word abstract to be published on-line and in program
4. long abstract/proposal: 1-2 pages

Proposals can be submitted by email to jungatfordham@fordham.edu or by mail to Mark Mattson.  The deadline for submissions is June 1, 2012, and proposals will be considered in the order they are received, beginning February 1, 2012.

"Perspectives on Interculturality” Conference (February 28 - March 1, 2013), Saint Louis University, St. Louis, Missouri

"Perspectives on Interculturality” Conference at Saint Louis University, St. Louis, February 28-March 1, 2013.  Increased understanding of interactions between different human groups is a major challenge of our time.  A half-century of critique of the concept of culture has made significant contributions, including foregrounding ethnocentrism as a source of research bias across disciplines; incorporating power into cultural studies; and expanding scholarship on cultures beyond ethno-linguistically defined groups.  Likewise, study of processes that transcend group divisions--globalization, empire, neo-colonialism--has flourished.  Meanwhile, understanding mechanisms of interactions between cultures has not kept pace. Intercultural studies are due for reflection and refinement.

The Center for Intercultural Studies at Saint Louis University invites proposals for papers taking a critical approach to interculturality, and exploring the potential as well as the limits of the concept.  The focus of the Conference, and the invitation for paper proposals, is specifically on innovative theoretical frameworks--preferably combining methods from more than one discipline--designed for analyzing interactions between different cultures.  A paper would ideally include a specific case study illustrating the application of the analytical framework proposed.  The goal is to assemble a theoretical and methodological toolbox for researching and understanding interculturality.  Selected papers will be published in a volume by an academic press.  Proposals should include: a one-page abstract of the paper, with a title and name of the author; the author's brief curriculum vitae; postal address; email address; and phone number.  Complete proposals should be emailed as attachments in MS Word to: rozbicmj@slu.edu.  The deadline for submissions is November 15, 2012.
