“Re-Imagining Valentine’s Day: Love is in the Air”

“To the degree that today’s commercial Valentine’s Day is narrowly focused on romantic love between a man and a woman, it is a holiday of exclusion rather than inclusion.  So I’m all in favor of re-imagining Valentine’s Day. Unitarian Universalist congregations all across the country are holding services and events that proclaim we are standing on the side of love—imagining a new kind of celebration of love—not lauding love between heterosexual couples while excluding love and marriage between same sex couples.

“Today Marjorie Ramos will talk about the joy of planning her wedding to Margaret Cantrell. She offers us a gift by telling their story. I want to talk about the most expansive definition of love possible.  To re-imagine Valentine’s Day, I ask you to look at the oppressive systems of exclusion and how we can be more inclusive...”    Rev.
