Youth Exchange - Counselor

Rule 17. Help the host counselor give the student a great experience.
Rule 17.1. ♦♦♦♦ Visit the student once per month to find out how they're doing and to solve any problems.
Rule 17.2. ♦♦♦♦ Take the student to do something fun a couple times during the year.
Rule 17.3. ♦♦♦♦ If you can't resolve a problem with the student, seek help from the inbound coordinator or other youth exchange Rotarians.
Rule 17.4. ♦♦♦♦ If your district chair can't resolve a problem with the student, seek help from the sponsoring district or parents.
Rule 17.5. ♦♦♦♦ Before and during the student's stay, plan activities by being pro-active, creative, enthusiastic, flexible, and imaginative.
Rule 17.7. Tell the host counselor, in a diplomatic and unofficial way, about these rules for giving students a great exchange experience.
Rule 17.8. Simply say: "Here are some ideas we've seen for giving the student a great experience."
Rule 17.9. Say it through either: (a) the #1 YEO; or (b) the outbound coordinator; or (c) the sponsor counselor; or (d) the club president.
Rule 17.10. Say it either: (a) once; or (b) twice; or (c) once a month; or (d) once a week; or (e) however many times you feel you should.
Rule 17.11. Say it anytime in either: (a) a letter; or (b) an email; or (c) a phone call; or (d) a thank you (for hosting our student) note.
Rule 17.12. When you say it, either: (a) provide a link to this counselor web site; or (b) provide a printout of pages stating the rules.
Rule 17.13. Simply ask the host counselor: "Have you used some of our ideas for giving the student a great experience?"
Rule 17.14. Ask: "What do you think of our ideas?" and "Do you have any other ideas?" and "Which ideas do you plan to use?" Etc.
Rule 17.15. Ask it through either: (a) the #1 YEO; or (b) the outbound coordinator; or (c) the outbound counselor; or (d) the club president.
Rule 17.16. Ask it anytime in either: (a) a letter; or (b) an email; or (c) a phone call; or (d) a thank you (for hosting our student) note.
Rule 17.17. When you ask it, either: (a) offer a link to this counselor web site; or (b) offer a printout of the pages stating the rules.
Rule 17.18. Ask it either: (a) once; or (b) twice; or (c) once a month; or (d) once a week; or (e) however many times you feel you should.
Rule 17.19. Ask the student if they've used these rules: either: (a) anytime the student is there; or (b) after the student returns; or (c) both.
Rule 17.20. Ask the student: either: (a) informally, by phone or email; or (b) formally, by a survey, during or after the student's stay.

Rule 18. Help the host club committee give the student a great experience.
Rule 18.1. ♦♦♦♦ If you don't have a club Youth Exchange Committee, form one.
Rule 18.2. ♦♦♦♦ When you form a club committee, include all members interested in the youth exchange experience.
Rule 18.3. ♦♦♦♦ Keep club committee members especially informed and aware of the student's activities and interests.
Rule 18.4. ♦♦♦♦ Ask club committee members to invite the student to club meetings and offer the student a ride to and from meetings.
