Rule 55. Ensure that in cooperating in sending a young person abroad on an international travel activity:

                    a. careful plans are made in advance (41.080.5, June 1998 Mtg., Bd. Dec. 348); and

                    b. careful plans are made covering every aspect of the proposed trip (41.080.5, June 1998 Mtg., Bd. Dec. 348).

Rule 56. Ensure that, for long term exchanges, the hosting club:

                    a. provides for all educational expenses (41.080.16); and

                    b. arranges an appropriate academic program (41.080.16); and

                    c. provides a program of orientation to familiarize the exchangee with the host community (41.080.16); and

                    d. provides continued contact to familiarize the exchangee with the host community (41.080.16).

Rule 57. Ensure that the receiving Rotary club or district provides a modest monthly allowance for the exchangee:

                    a. in an amount to be jointly determined by the parties concerned (41.080.17); and

                    b. sufficient to include the cost of meals eaten at school and not otherwise provided for (41.080.17).

Rule 58. If an exchangee is sent home, ensure that prior to the exchangee being sent home:

                    a. all parties involved in the exchange are fully informed (41.080.11); and

                    b. the hosting and receiving Rotary clubs and districts are fully informed (41.080.11); and

                    c. host families and the exchangee's parents or legal guardians are fully informed (41.080.11).
