Commissioned by Torfaen County Council This Time Machine sculpture was designed after considerable research into
the history of Pontypool and it’s surrounding areas. The town is world renowned for various domestic and heavy
industries including Japan ware ceramics, Clock making, toy making and tin plate & iron industries. The first forge in
America was set up by two men from Pontypool!.
The sculpture draws inspiration from these various industries as well as the excellent architectural detailing featured on
some of the towns more ornate buildings .
The park where the Time machine will be installed is in itself inspirational. It was once the gardens for the Hanbury
family house. The design for the garden was inspired by capability Brown and features amongst other things a grotto,
folly and ornate Italian gardens.
