Cathy Loughran has been a photographer for almost 20 years. She studied Documentary Photography in the Newport school of Art and Design in Wales and has worked for many publications around the world including; The Miami Herald in the United States, The Independent in London, Liberation in France, Die Zeit and Der Speigel in Germany and The Sunday Tribune in Dublin.
She won the Young British Photographer of the Year and the Tom Hopkinson Memorial Bursary in 1994. She was a participant in the ‘World Press Masterclass’ in 1995.
Her work has been featured in prestigous books and publications including '10 Women for the Freedom of Press' (Reporters without borders) in 2002. ‘World Press Masterclass - the first decade’ in 2005 and '100 photos for the Freedom of Press' (Reporters without borders) in 2006.
Cathy is currently a resident artist in both Zenbu Gallery and Crea21 galleria in Barcelona and she spends most of her time working between Barcelona and Ireland.
