Introduction to Theatre
Course Objectives:
This course is an introduction the elements of theatre production and appreciation. We will examine the history and development of the theatre and discuss various methods and styles commonly used in producing and evaluating a play. No prior theatre experience is necessary.

Course Requirements:
All written assignments will be turned in to Tunitin.com. Each student must create an account on Turnitin and all grades will be sent via the email provided in that account. Essays will be graded according to the holistic rubric, which evaluates the accuracy of the content, as well as the quality of the writing. Excessive similarity to other essays or online content can also adversely affect your grade.
All instances of plagiarism will be reported to the office of Judicial Affairs.
Assignments
1.Short Essay (30 points each x 3). Brief 300 to 600 word essays will be written in response to specific questions given in class at the discretion of the instructor.
3. Exams (40 points each x3). Exams cover readings, course lectures and discussions and entail short essay and image identification questions.
4. Final (40 points). The Final Exam will be a cumulative exam that requires comparison of disparate aspects of the course material. This exam will be a take-home essay submitted to Turnitin.com by Wednesday midnight of finals week.
5. Class Notes (5 points x5) At random intervals during the semester the instructor will collect students’ class notes for that day in class and evaluate them according to level of detail, accuracy, thoroughness, and organization. (✓- = 3; ✓ = 4; ✓+ = 5).
Be sure to arrive in class on time as all classes start promptly at the start of the hour.
