The Art and Art History Department
Building Community through Art
Each summer, Prof. Rachel Simmons of the Department of Art and Art History and Rollins College studio majors work with community partners to design and create murals all over Central Florida. Past community partners include Ferncreek Elementary, Winter Park Day Nursery, the Jewish Community Center and the Oviedo Girls and Boys Town. If your organization is interested in applying for next year, please download an application!
The muralists’ goal each summer is to provide a valuable service to community partners while educating the public about the positive impact that art can make in our daily lives. As they work, the artists learn more about the communities they served while they expand their knowledge of how to organize and create public art projects successfully.
