Rogers Park Garden Group
community gardening

Based on majority vote of the RPGG membership, our adopted project for 2008 is the renovation of the embankment area surrounding the Rogers Park Metra station at Greenleaf and Ravenswood. Leading the charge is a group of enthusiastic and ambitious neighbors in and around the Greenleaf Arts Center.

The first planning meeting was held on March 2 at the Greenleaf Arts Center. Over 25 people attended and volunteered to be part of the planning and design, fundraising, volunteer coordination, and planting and maintenance. Fundraising and planning and design are being undertaken in March, clean up and ground preparation in April, and planting in May/June.

Many terrific ideas were discussed at the initial planning meeting including using native plants, creating bioswales, and incorporating art in the garden. With the amazing talent of many Rogers Park residents, this project will surely tap the creative juices in the neighborhood. And it should be lots of fun!

The RPGG Community Garden Committee voted to allocate $1000 of available community gardening funds to the project. We will also assist in additional fund raising and volunteer solicitation, in addition to assisting in the design, ground preparation, plant purchasing, and planting.

If you are interested in participating in this exciting project, please visit the project website metragarden or email us. The project website includes information on the project and meeting schedules. Volunteers are needed for everything from fundraising and volunteer outreach to clean up, planting, and maintenance. A community that gardens together smiles together.
