Contemporary Folk Art

Originally, folk art served an infant nation’s need to see itself... farms, livestock, sailing ships, people, clothing, tools, etc. From then until now “self taught” folk art can also be seen as a natural adjunct to regionalism.... a turn to grassroots America.

It is traditional in form and often utilitarian.

Individual styles of folk art will vary from a primitive Grandma Moses

and Will Moses,  a Warren Kimble, to the late Charles Wysocki who’s style is

more graphic and contemporary.

It’s in the contemporary mode that we see Ron Parvu’s work.
