Narrative Biography
I have been Rector of St. Alban’s, Oakland, New Jersey, in the Diocese of Newark, since 2000. It has been a privilege to be a catalyst enabling our church to emerge into a missional congregation extending transformative ministry locally and globally. I graduated from Madras Christian College, Tambaram, and Union Biblical Seminary, both in India. I have post graduate degrees in Practical Theology from Union Theological Seminary, Virginia (1994), Church and Society from Princeton Seminary (1995), and a PhD from Drew University (2005) in Religion and Society. I was ordained a priest in the Church of South India (Anglican Communion) in 1990. After serving congregations in rural south India, and in the Diocese of Newark, I served as Associate Rector at St. Peter’s, Morristown from 1997-2000, with a total of seventeen years experience as a priest in the Church.
I was co-founder of the Dalit Solidarity Forum in the USA, serve on the board of Creative Living Counseling Center, currently Chair the Oakland Franklin Lakes Interfaith Council, and serve as an Adjunct faculty at Drew Theological Seminary in Madison, New Jersey. My services include several Diocesan bodies.
Roja and I have been married since 1991 and we have two sons—Ned, a sophomore in high school; and Eklan, a first grader. Roja has a PhD in Comparative Literature and is a tenure-track faculty in the Women's Studies Department at William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey. I enjoy playing the guitar, singing, cooking, working-out, playing basketball, cricket, volleyball, soccer, engaging poetry and watching movies.
