Narrative Biography

I have been blessed to live a life filled with love, flowing from God, family and friends, which has shaped me into a person who believes deeply in the transforming power of Christ’s love for each and every one of us. The confidence this awareness gives me has helped me to lead a somewhat adventurous life, at least for a parish priest. In my twenty two years of ordained life I have served well in four congregations, each quite different from one another, including rural, urban and suburban settings, and ranging from large to small.

My belief that the Episcopal Church has a vital role to play in God’s care for the world led me, as a youth group member, to help build an orphanage in Mexico and, as an adult, to help build ecological outhouses in rural El Salvador.  In my local communities I have been active as a leader in efforts to address homelessness, health needs, care for people with HIV/AIDS, at-risk youth, and isolated elderly.  Advanced training in congregational and organizational dynamics has helped make me an effective participant and leader in diocesan ministries, including College Ministries, Congregational Growth, Budget/Finance, World Mission, Youth/Camping and various social justice commissions.

Knowing the importance of clergy wellness, I have been a mentor and supporter of people in discernment processes as well as clergy in need of healing. I am also very intentional about caring for myself and allowing others, especially Cathy, my wife, and our six young adult children, to care for me.
