The log books from Benwick Primary School contain an amazing 25 references showing that Plough Monday Customs were practised by the school children in the village between the years 1878 and 1922.
There is 1 reference to absenteeism on Plough Monday in 1879.

At least 2 sets of memoirs from people living in Stretham describe Plough Monday in the early 1920’s We found further references to Plough Monday in Stretham in school log books between 1870 and 1889.
