The children have also performed molly dancing and drama for their local communities and the wider public at places such as Ely Cathedral, The Royal Norfolk Show, The Whittlesey Straw Bear Festival, Brandon Creek, Welney Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, Meadowgate School and Our World Festivals in Norfolk and Cambridgeshire. The children have played a key role in keeping the annual tradition of Plough Monday alive in the villages of Northwold and Feltwell. In addition, many schools have continued to teach molly dancing and still perform at local village events.
The Project has encompassed many areas of the National Curriculum. Please follow the links to see examples of some of the artwork and poetry produced.
The Project was an extension of a smaller Heritage Lottery Funded Project entitled “With a Little Help from the Fens” which ran in 4 Norfolk schools during 2003.
To find out more about the dancing and stories that we teach please look at our Resources page.
“One of the purposes of the Heritage Lottery Fund is to preserve our “national treasures”..... I wish I could bottle tonight's performance and keep it forever”

A Fenland Heritage and Traditions Project
Of Giants, Wisewomen, Ploughboys & Kings was a highly successful three year Heritage Lottery Funded Project run by Our World Festivals in conjunction with Norfolk and Cambridgeshire County Councils and the Ouse Washes Molly Dancers.
Over 1000 pupils from 24 schools across the Fens and their teachers and families, learnt about their local history and traditional customs. Pupils learnt up to 7 molly dances and dramatised local stories. The Norfolk leg of the Project culminated in around 170 dancers and actors performing in-front of a full house of over 600 people at Kings Lynn Corn Exchange.
