Karen Kurak
Karen Kurak is a fiber artist who lives and works in Loveland, Ohio. She lives with her husband - musician - John Kurtz, and two faithful canine companions and studio guardians Gilbert and George.
After completing her BFA at the University of Cincinnati, she began showing fiber work in various forms, locally and nationally.
Her work currently consists of art quilts and pillows, portrait quilts and memory quilts (those made from cloth or clothing that have been held dear and hold meaning). She is also a weaver and creates soft and brightly colored, hand painted baby blankets and throws.
Her extravagant wearable art consists of one of a kind, hand woven, hand dyed and hand sewn wraps and scarves, robes and jackets that include unexpected combinations of texture and color.
Karen’s blankets are carried by Mica Contemporary Craft in O’Bryanville and wearable arts are available at Essentials for Body and Soul on Edwards Avenue, in Hyde Park and at Rivers Edge Gallery, at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, concourse B.
Her Portrait Quilts can be seen at Little Liza Jane’s children's shop on Cooper Road in Montgomery.
