An early morning house fire has taken the life of Barry MacAlpine, of Chugiak, leaving behind 40 Alaskan huskies in need of homes. A former Iditarod musher, Barry ran the first race back in 1973, the very first Iditarod. If you are interested and can take in any dogs, contact Kurt Jokela at 688-6339 or valkur@mtaonline.net. The dogs are still on his property but will soon be taken to Animal Control if no homes are found.
