The physical measurements of the diopters, (spherical and cylindrical) are but a brief glimpse into the physical arrangement of the optics of the eye. There is something fundamentally missing. What about the rest of their life? For years, I have been plotting the patient's diopters on a graph each time the new glasses are prescribed.
I then correlate aspects of their life that could be having an influence on the measurement in the eye. The information I get from the total view is very different than from one measurement. The changes in diopters in the eye correspond to the circumstances and events in the person's life. The problems in seeing are not caused by the eye, but reveal themselves in the eye.
When the patient sees the graph, they very quickly realise that the eye difficulties are related to their perceptions. When they take the self responsibility for the well-being of their eyes, they are in control of the programming that can affect the eyes in a positive way.
The new glasses they will get will take in the total view and not just the single measurement. This means that the normal lens prescription will be modified. The change can be very dramatic that can have a very powerful therapeutic effect on the person's way of perceiving. Much more relaxing.
The measurement of the eye is usually done in a very short fraction of the person's life. From this measurement glasses are prescribed.
Plotting a number of measurements on a graph gives a pictorial representation of the person's deepest perceptions related to their whole life.
