The Play
27 Wagons Full of Cotton is a collection of short one-act plays by Tennesse Williams. Many were written as studies for characters who appear in Williams’ later, more well known classics. They are fascinating pieces and it will be great to pick through some of the best.
“The thirteen one-act plays collected in this volume include some of Tennessee Williams’ finest and most powerful work. They are full of the perception of life as it is, and the passion for life as it ought to be, which have made The Glass Managerie and A Streetcar Named Desire classics of American theater”
How Play Club works
Well it’s all new so we’ll see how we go, but put simply, we’ll turn up with a £2 coin, draw the parts out of a hat and have a read. Each week one member will give us a short introduction to the play, its themes and a bit about its performance history. Once we’ve done we can have a chat over a glass of wine and a few nibbles. Easy.
