First, my MBP was much hotter than it should be. Next the speakers contantly put off a drone that they pick up while both CPU cores are in use.
More recently, the battery failed. (It was happening to so many people that Apple issued a voluntary replacement program.)
Now, despite my attempts to be as careful as possibe with the power cord, the little gold plated pins in the magsafe connector seem to need treatment for erectile dysfunction. Short of using centrifical force to get them to slide out, they do not make contact with the pads on the MBP’s power connector.
Concidental to the problem with the pins, the ground shield inside the cable (adjacent to the magsafe plug) has frayed to the point that it no longer consistenly conducts electricity. It also tends to become dangerously hot with use.
Desperation has driven me to disassemble the magsafe power connector. A zip tie is acting as a strain relief to hold things together until I can get a replacement power cord.
The quality of cable used between the power cable and the magsafe connector is shameful. Apple being the only source of the magsafe connector stinks as well. If I was dealing with a Thinkpad, I could either grab a used 5$ replacement supply off of craigslist, or pick up a new coaxial plug at Radio Shack.
I’ll be trawling around the house to see if I can find the box my applecare came in. I never got around to signing up. Hopefully the temporary repairs will hold out until I can get signed up and wait through whatever delay is involved before the applecare warranty kicks in.
