Is there power in prayer???

Today I was driving home and got off I-290 and I saw a man who was unshaven in less than clean clothes, holding a cup and wearing a sign made from a piece of cardboard that said, “Is there power in prayer?

There are a number of things I could say here, but for starters for his sake I hope that prayers are answered and that there is power in prayer.  For all our sakes I want to really stress my desire for prayer to have power. Not just for me but for all people who are suffering or in need.

Now I believe there is power in prayer, and that power is not limited to some form of divine intervention in so mystical source.  I believe the real power of prayer is our capacity to change ourselves, the capacity to change others and their circumstances, and the capacity to be changed by others.

It is our task to make prayers come true when we have the opportunity.  Tonight… I did not happen to make a prayer begin/continue to come true.  I did not help that man and the only reason I can come up with was my own personal convenience and those around me.  I drove right by… granted it was green and it was busy traffic but… I could have stopped… any of us could, and in fact I’m sure people with the means to help that man get a restart on his life drove right by. Tonight I feel guilty because I am guilty of not making a prayer come true.  I am guilty of not giving. What can I learn from this? What can we learn from this??? How can we change things...?
