Away to llantwit Fadre

Abercynon 3 Llantwit fadre 4

Abercynon travelled to Llantwit Fadre and lost a scrappy game 4-3,played on a heavy pitch both teams gave it their all. Harry landeg scored Abercynon's first try with an impressive run from the half way. Rhys Davies touched down for their second try after a run down the blind side.Leon Grant rounded off the scoring after being driven over by his forwards from close range,however it wasn't enough on the day and Llantwit held on to the final whistle.


Abercynon 19 Ynysowen 19  Away Game

Abercynon went into a 14 point lead with tries scored by Leon Grant and Ross Williams the conversions were added by Harry Landeg and leon Grant, some good passing and ball carrying lifted the crowd however a spirited comeback by Ynysowen resulted in a 19 all draw. Dewi Jones played an excellent all round match and Lauren Fairbairn and Jordon Amos made their debuts.

In a close game Abercynon were just edged out by a more physical Maerdy side.

The Under 10's and Under 9's also travelled to Nelson.  The 10's drew with 1 try each in a spirited game with plenty of tackling.  Leon Grant grabbing Cynon's try.  The 9's won thier match 25 - 0 with 3 tries from Lloyd Dennett and 1 each for Connor Hayman and Gavin Williams.


Under 10's Cynon 35 - Abercwmboi 7 

Today we were at home and came away with a much deserved victory. Cynon started too stongly for the visitors and scored five unanswered tries from Callum Hall, Thomas Bradwick, Alex Evans and two for Connor Jones all converted by Ben Breakspear before half time. Abercwnboi came into the game in the second half and were rewarded with a converted try of their own. An excellent all round performance from Cynon in the first half where the game was well and truely sealed.

Under 10's Pontypridd 7 - Cynon 12

Both teams played some good running tugby in cold wet conditions. Ponty put first points on the board with a converted try but Cynon replied quickly with one through Connor Jones converted by Ben Breakspear. The second half was played in the same manner as the first with only excellent defences stopping both teams crossing the line. Cynon managed the only score of the half from Ben Breakspear in the dying seconds of the game.



This week we had a tough game against local rivals Ynysbwl. There was very little to choose between the two teams in what turned out to be a very tight and physical game. Cynon went in front with a try from Zak Byard who managed to find his way around a well organised bwl defence, Ben Breakspear converted the try to put Cynon 7 points in front. Ynysbwl did not let their heads drop and came at the Cynon defence with everything they had and was eventually rewarded with a converted try just before half time. The second half was just has tight as the first with both defences not giving an inch. Abercynon eventually managed to find a way through with a strong run from Connor Jones who was tackled inches from the line but his momentum took him over for Cynon's second which was converted by Ben Breakspear. The final score was Abercynon 14, Ynysbwl 7 


Under 10's Abercynon 28 - Pontyclun 19

An entertaining game for the spectators with both teams giving 110% in what was a very physical encounter with Cynon coming away with the spoils 28 points to 19. Pontyclun dominated the first half scoring three tries to Cynon's one which was scored and converted by Ben Breakspear. Cynon raised their game in the second half and started to claw their way back into the game with a try from Connor Jones converted by Jordan Coxley. Connor Jones scored his second of the game which came from another run down the wing and was converted by Zac Byard to put Cynon in front. The final score came from  Jordan Coxley who drove over from close range and was converted by Zac Byard. Since both teams have large squads they played another game which followed in the same manner as the first. Again Pontyclun were the first teams to get point on the board with a converted try but cynon replied witha converted try of their own from Zac Byard. Cynon scored the next two tries both coming from Ben Breakspear one of  which he converted with Daniel Atkins converting the second. Pontyclun did not give up and had the last say of the game with a drive over try resulting from a penalty in the Cynon 22. Final score for this game Abercynon 21 Pontyclun 12.

Today we welcomed Pontyclun to Y parc in what turned out to be an entertaining game for the spectators.

Both teams gave 110% in what turned out to be a physical encounter with Cynon coming away with the spoils 28 points to 19. Today we welcomed a strong Nelson team to Y parc for what turned out to be a very physical game. Nelson scored the first try of the game from an interception which they converted. Abercynon responded straight away with another interception try of their own from Ben Breakspear. The ball was kept very tight between both sets of forwards but with Nelson keeping the ball up their jumper the Abercynon pack drove them backwards forcing them to pass the ball over their try line. A quick defensive run  from Ben Breakspear suprised  Nelson forcing an error and giving him his second try. Nelson did not let their heads drop and with some good forward play allowed thier backs to go over for their second which they converted. Abercynon had the final say in the first half with Ben Breakspear scoring his hatrick. The second half started with the same tempo as the first with both teams trying to move forward but neither defence giving an inch. Cynon were the first to convert the pressure into points with a try from Brad Wilkins. Nelson raised their game and put Abercynon under a lot of pressure which was rewarded with a scrum in the Cynon 22. Quick thinking from their scrum half sent the Cynon defence the wrong way and scored another converted try. Cynon scored their fifth try of the game in the dying seconds which came from a blistering run by Connor Jones which rounded the game up.

Under 10's Cynon 38 - Rhumney 0

This is the second time these teams have met this season with Rhymney winning the first encounter. The team captained by Jordan O'Donnell went out on the field looking to put the record straight and started the game at a very high tempo. The forwards dominated most of the game with their strong runs and clearing out at the rucks which allowed the backs to run the ball. The first try of the game came form Zach Byard who also converted putting Cynon in front 7 - 0. A converted try came from Thomas Bradwick who with support of his forwards drove through the Rhymney defence for Cynons second. The second half started as the first had finished with the Cynon forwards dominating in the ruck area allowing more quick ball for the backs resulting in a converted try for Connor Jones. The next two tries were a results of the hard work done up front with tries coming from Jordan Coxley and a second converted try of the game for Thomas Bradwick. Cynon scored a sixth try which came from a Rhymney clearance kick which Connor Jones collected and sprinted over for his second of the game. 

 


Abercynon under 10's results


Today we were away to Gilfach Goch and came away with a 20 - 5 victory. Gilfach started the game at a high tempo which took the Cynon defence by surprise which resulted in Gilfach going over for the first try. Cynon responded well with some good rucking from the forwards which was rewarded with a penalty in the Gilfach 22. A quick tap pass from Jarrad Shean allowed Ben Breakspear to go over in the corner finishing the first half 5 -5. The Cynon forwards started strong in the second half with strong runs coming from Jarrad Williams, Daniel Atkins and Callum Hall which dragged in the Gilfach defence allowing the ball to be passed along the backs and out to Connor Jones who out paced the remaining defence to go over for Cynons second. The forwards carried on with he high tempo which was rewarded in a try for Thomas Bradwick. Abercynon were unlucky to get another soon after as Alex Evans powered his way through the Gilfach defence only to loose the ball h! as he went over the line. Cynon's final try came from Ben Breakspear.

 

Both teams played an additional 10 minutes to allow both squads to have a run out in which Gilfach scored three tries without a reply from Cynon.


Under 10's Abercynon 10 - Tondu 0

A very physical encounter in muddy conditions causing a lot of handling errors in the first half. Cynon boys adapted well to the conditions in the second with some strong running and off loading from the forwards resulting in a scrum 5 metres from the Tondu line. Ben Breakspear picked the ball up from the base of the scrum and jinxed his way through the Tondu defence to get the first score of the game. Cynon were unlucky not to score a second soon after when Connor Jones took the ball in his own half and sprinted down the wing only to be denied by a try saving tackle from the Tondu defence. The final score of the game was rewarded to Thomas Bradwick who went over after the forwards applied extensive pressure in the Tondu 22.

Today was the first game of the year for the under 10's against Tondu and came away with our first win against this tough opposition.. IT WAS A WET,WINDY,MUDDY SATURDAY MORNING WHEN THE MOUNTS 10,S PLAYED HOST TO LOCAL RIVALS ABERCYNON 10,S.

IT WAS THEIR FIRST ENCOUNTER OF THIS SEASON WITH LAST SEASON ENDING WITH ONE VICTORY EACH.

THE GAME PROMISED TO BE A THRILLING ENCOUNTER,AND IT CERTAINLY LIVED UP TO ITS PROMISE.

                               STRAIGHT FROM THE KICK OFF CYNONS FOWARDS DROVE RIGHT THROUGH THE HEART OF THE MOUNT DEFENSE AND AFTER A STRONG RUN FROM ALEX EVANS AND SOME GOOD TACKLING BY THE HOME SIDE, CYNON WHERE HELD UP OVER THE MOUNT TRY LINE.THIS SET THE TEMPO FOR THE REST OF THE GAME WITH BOTH SIDES COMING CLOSE TO SCORING IN THE FIRST PERIOD.

                     THE SECOND HALF STARTED AS THE FIRST HAD FINISHED WITH BOTH SIDES COMING CLOSE,BUT MID WAY THROUGH THE SECOND PERIOD CYNONS PACK STARTED TO TAKE CONTROL WITH STRONG RUNS FROM DANIEL ATKINS AND CALLUM HALL,AND AFTER SOME GOOD RUCKING BY THE CYNON PACK, MOUNT CONCEDED A PENALTY  20 YARDS FROM THEIR OWN LINE.

SCRUM HALF BEN BREAKSPEAR TAPPED THE BALL TO ALEX EVANS WHO AFTER A POWERFUL RUN FORCED HIS WAY OVER IN THE CORNER TO SCORE THE ONLY TRY OF THE GAME .THE TRY WAS CONVERTED BY ZAC BYARD,CYNON NOW LED 7 TO 0 AND DESPITE MOUNT THROWING EVERYTHING AT THE VISITORS IN THE FINAL QUARTER ,THE CYNON YOUNGSTERS NEVER GAVE AN INCH AND CAME OUT DESERVED VICTORS.

Under 10s

We were away to Ynysbwl today and came away with a win. Ynysbwl got the first score of the day with a converted try but cynon replied with an interception try from Ben Breakspear ending the first half  7 - 5. Ynyswbwl got another converted try before Abbie Pugh popped a well timed pass to Connor Jones which he out paced the bwl defence to go over for a try in the corner on his debut which was converted by Jordan Coxley. A third try came from a powerful run down the left wing by Zac Byard who also scored on his debut. Alex Evans scored his first try of the season to finish the game 22 - 14

Today we were away to Pontyclun and came away 22 points to 0 victors. It was a hard fought game in muddy conditions that caused Abercynon a lot of handling errors early on. They over came this and extended pressure form from Daniel Atkins, Callum Hall and Jordan Coxley in the Pontyclun 22 was rewarded with a try from Thomas Bradwick which he also converted. Pontyclun started to play some expansive rugby but the cynon defensive held out and was rewarded with another try which came from an interception pass which Ben Breakspear raced in from his own half. The second half was played in the same tempo as the first half with good attacking runs from Abbie Pugh and Rhys Williams but the Pontclun defence was to strong. The third try came from some good driving from cynon's newest member to the squad Alex Evans who helped set up Thomas Bradwick for his second. The last try of the games was scored from another long run in from Ben Breakspear.




Under 10s played Rhymney and lost 20 - 0. The whole squad give 100% in what turned out to be a very physical game but could not reply to Rhymneys four tries.


Abercynon 19 Llantrisant 12

After a few weeks lay off Abercynon came against a well organised and strong Llantrisant team. Abercynon showed some good defensive work and a deputant Jarrad welch's second half hat trick with conversions by Leon Grant and Rhys Davies meant Abercynon gained a hard earned victory.
