Heavy Response to Glenn Beck Day in Mount Vernon

Thanks For Your Votes!

John Dean Announces Candidacy

John Dean, 60, of Camano Island, will stand for re-election to the District 3 (North Whidbey and Camano Island) seat on the Board of Island County Commissioners this year. Dean was the Democratic candidate for the Board of Commissioners, District 3, in 2006 and won a landslide victory after a 25-year community journalism career with the Stanwood/Camano NEWS, where he was editor and associate publisher.

Dean asks for another term "to provide continuity, stability, and calm bipartisan diplomacy to the often-volatile processes of government during transition and recession recovery." He is also motivated to stay on the job to honor his commitment to give Camano "politically-balanced" representation from one who lives on the island full-time "with long-standing roots and diverse community experience."

"Islanders have widely-diverse opinions about government just about any time, but even more so during a recession bordering on depression," Dean said. "I honor many of those points of view and welcome ongoing dialogue. But ideologies from one extreme or the other don't help the majority of us. We need to hold ourselves together on some middle ground, avoid exaggerated fears, and give up habits of disdain about government. None of that helps. It only divides us."
