The KCS Arts Support Group, recognized by the Keene Central School Board, includes parents and other concerned members of the Keene community who have come together, on a volunteer basis, to help enhance and support the performing and visual arts within the school. Our primary purposes include; finding, and helping the arts departments benefit from, programmatic enhancement opportunities; offering creative ideas and labor to help address problems; and providing a clearinghouse to help connect volunteers with tasks.
The support group consists of three committees, each devoted to specific aspects of supporting the arts.
Devoted to facilitating and improving all aspects of live performances and exhibitions in school and outside the school. Includes organizing and assisting with tasks required to prepare for performances and exhibitions, and facilitating practice sessions and other arrangements required to make these events happen.
Focused on determining community expectations of, enlisting community support for, and encouraging local arts interaction with, the arts at KCS. Also responsible for maintaining relationships with other local arts groups, implementing an “artist in residence” program at KCS, facilitating an arts exchange program, and helping KCS students to attend regional arts events.
Concerned with advocating inside the school for favorable arts program scheduling and funding, and soliciting arts department funding from outside the school. Also charged with helping KCS to become a “model arts program” by examining other successful arts programs and suggesting how KCS arts might adopt their best practices.
