Via Directions for iPhone

Currently withdrawn from sale

As at 10 June 2010, Via Directions was not interacting properly with the Maps app on iPhone OS. This appears to be caused by changes to how Maps displays Google Maps URLs.

Other priorities mean I haven’t been able to fix this yet. I’ll update this site if there are any developments.

You don’t always go straight there

It’s great how your iPhone or iPod touch can give you directions from A to B. But what if you want to go via C? That’s where Via Directions can help.

Use Via Directions to specify an intermediate stop for your trip. Or name a street to use to avoid a bottleneck. The results are generated by Google and displayed in the Maps application, just like a standard directions search.

You can type addresses into Via Directions, select them from your Contacts, or select “Current Location”.

Via Directions is available now from Apple’s App Store in several countries. Currently unavailable—see note above.

Version 2.0.1 has been tested on iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and second-generation iPod touch, and requires iPhone OS 2.2 or later (iPhone OS 3.0 or later recommended).

If you like Via Directions and you use a Mac, be sure to check out MappingService too.
